Shawn Ryan is the creator and Executive Producer of The Chicago Code.


Ryan got his start in television as a staff writer on the show Nash Bridges and served as the producer of Angel before creating and head writing The Shield. He was partnered with David Mamet to serve as showrunner for The Unit.

He was a writer and show runner for season 2 of Fox's Lie to Me. He was also a writer and the show runner for FX's Terriers until its cancellation.

He graduated from Middlebury College and is married to actress Cathy Cahlin Ryan, who starred on The Shield. They have two children.

While he has worked for Fox Television exclusively for the last 7 years, he recently signed a three-year overall deal with Sony Television. He is contractually obligated to continue to write and oversee The Chicago Code through a second season.
